French and Irish made engaging, approachable and fun. It doesn’t have to be a struggle!
Bonjour! Dia duit! I’m Leah, a French and Irish tutor, and I love sharing my passion for languages with my students. I’m a fluent French and Irish speaker and I also speak some Russian and Dutch.
My lessons are engaging, fun, and authentic, and my students describe me as approachable, friendly, and enthusiastic. Every lesson is tailored to each student’s unique learning style, goals, and interests.

Approach to Teaching
Experience with learning differences
My background in Psychology has given me a strong understanding of how conditions such as dyslexia, ADHD and autism affect learning. I have a keen interest in learning differences, and I adapt all my lessons to ensure that they accommodate each student’s unique learning needs. I have taught students with ADHD, dyslexia and autism, ensuring that they feel supported and have what they need to thrive.
My love of French was inspired by my Grandad,a fluent French speaker who worked in France and Switzerland. As a child, he’d teach me some phrases in French which sparked a lifelong passion for the language. I am a member of the Athlone-Châteaubriant Twinning Committee, which organises exchanges between Athlone and the French town of Châteaubriant. I also run French conversation groups in Athlone library, and I have taught Conversational French courses at Moate Business College.
French
Irish/ Gaeilge
I am a passionate Gaeilgeoir and speak Irish everyday. I believe that Irish is a lot more than just a school subject - it’s our heritage, our culture and a living language. I enjoy attending Athlone’s Pop-Up Gaeltacht. With the current Irish language revival, there’s never been a better time to learn or improve. My lessons go beyond grammar to truly inspire a grá (love) for Gaeilge. I use Irish-language music, podcasts and movies in my lessons to make them engaging and authentic. Above all, I show my students that Irish is a living, breathing language.
Approach to teaching
What sets me apart is my approach to teaching: I believe that encouragement, positive reinforcement, and an enjoyable learning environment achieve far better results than pressure and rote learning. I focus on helping students overcome anxiety and exam stress, ensuring that they feel calm, confident and prepared.
Would you like to improve your French or Irish? Whether it’s for the Leaving Cert., university or just for fun, I’d love to support you.
